Street Ministry/The Homeless
As Great Commission Christians, we cannot ignore the needs of those around us. When we opened the House of Prayer, January 1, 2000, we, of course, prayed for the homeless as well as for America, the nations, etc. Funny thing: when you pray, God often makes you part of the answer!!
One night, a very hungry, homeless person came to our meeting. We opened a can of stew and gave him some crackers. The rest is history. We began helping the homeless and never stopped. In fact, we have grown a great deal! We now feed the homeless Monday thru Friday 8 AM to 10AM. Fridays we have sack lunches that are provided by Our Savior Lutheran church. We also provide laundry and shower facilities. Depending on our resources we have clothing for the homeless.
While we recognize that there are many people in our area that need help, we concentrate on helping those who cannot get help from anyone else. The neediest of all include: transients, travelers, those just released from prison, and street people.
To be eligible for help at the HOP mission, a person must be:
• Living in a tent or outside
• Living in a vehicle
• Living in an abandoned house without utilities
